Ross’s Landing Park and Plaza
River City Company - 1992
This urban revitalization project is located on the Tennessee River, surrounding a large fresh water aquarium. The combined public spaces and gardens are treated as a microcosm of the region, including its urban grid, mountainous terrain and riverbank configuration. The entire site is articulated by a series of thirty-five longitudinal bands of paving, water and vegetation. These ribbons evolve chronologically from the geometry of the city to the organic undulations of the waterfront and, in certain locations, rise upward from the horizontal surface to form bridges, performance spaces, seating areas and fountains.
